Solved byApr 20, 2012 09:56I'm looking at replacing my incredibly old software with a new version and am looking at PowerDirector.
Can anyone tell me if it will capture recordings from VHS tapes?
What I'm currently doing is:
VHS into a camcorder via the red, yellow, white connectors - camcorder into the PC via firewire..I think it's called pass through?
My old software - Elements 2 will accept the video feed but newer software seems to struggle..will Power Director accept an input like that?
Thanks!
What is the difference between Cinema Grade and Cinema Grade Pro? With Cinema Grade Pro you get access to such features as the 3 step grading workflow that includes shot Matching with groups, ACES Color Science and X-Rite Chart Support. You can get the full list of options for comparison on the checkout pages. I use Cinema Grade. You can also import your video from PowerDirector by selecting the video on your timeline and clicking Fix/Enhance, then you can select ColorDirector to edit. Step2: Adjust the Color using Split Toning. Go to the Adjustment menu; and find 'Split Toning' under 'Global Adjustment Tools'. Split Toning is a technique that allows highlights.

Powerdirector can capture from VCR, but you must have a capture device that has a Windows Driver (WDM) that can be seen in Powerdirector's Capture module.

If you have a computer that will meet or exceed the minimum specifications, why don't you try a free trial?
What problems have you had with 'other' software. My guess would be that your current computer may not be good enough. Look especially at your video card/chip in addition to the other normal specs. .

Anything I post unless stated with a reference is my personal opinion.
Do not limit your software choice by a single factor, such as capture. I often use Windows Movie Maker for AV to DV capture via camcorder pass-thru.
Powerdirector uses the created captured files with no issues, as do other softwares.
Many, if not all Pros, use several different softwares to get where they need to go. HP Envy Phoenix/4thGen i7-4770(4@3.4GHz~turbo>3.9)/Nvidia GTX 960(4GB)/16GB DDR3/7,200rpm/w10x64---
Canon Vixia HV30/HF-M40/HF-M41/HF-G20/Olympus E-PL5. Tape capture using 4 VCR, TBC, Elite BVP4+, Sony D8 camcorder with TBC.

For whatever reason PD seems to think that all of my tapes are copy-protected. I've speculated that it's because I start capturing before the tapes' contents start, but what I do is use the software that came with the device to do the actual capture. Then I use PD for everything else. Jerry Schwartz

In this case, an analog-digital pass-thru using a camcorder probably does not have software associated with it, so WMM is a good bet. I use my HV30 which essentially becomes a $500 AV/DV converter, providing excellent quality.Beacon teaches typing. This message was edited 1 time. Last update was at Apr 20. 2012 21:00
